Urban Landscape Research

This time our blog post is supposed to be about the emotions urban landscapes give us.
Here I'll show two different pictures from deviantart.com, both of the same city, Manila, but in different viewpoints, one being negative and one being positive.

POSITIVE URBAN LANDSCAPE - Manila waters by lennyconil
I really liked the beautiful colours in this shot and the use of reflections.
It really gives a sense of a clean, healthy place where one would want to live.

NEGATIVE URBAN LANDSCAPE - Poverty by go1985
The artist says she photographed this picture for a project titled "Something Ugly"; she felt like she didn't want to shoot poor people, but rather the situation they are in.
I feel like this picture portrays that idea really well; she is primarily shooting the surroundings and buildings, rather than the people in it.
The black and white definitely adds to the negative feeling we feel when we see this picture, but nonetheless I think it's a great shot and I really like the alignment and journalistic feel to this image.

In general I feel like these two pictures show that there are always two sides to a story, and in the case of urban landscapes it's often riches and poverty.
